Learn to turn wild bark into intricate twill designs! Friday afternoon we will gather at a riverside pavilion in downtown Murphy to peel bark from a log and turn it into fine skeins of weaving material! Saturday and Sunday we will weave the bark into baskets! You may choose from several different projects: a bark hat, platter, or satchel. You will also have the opportunity to learn several different decorative twill weaves, and learn the process for designing your own weaves! This will be a spacious weekend full of laughter and creative exploration!

Bark Journals
Details
Weave twill journal covers with bark from wild plants and trees, and bind them with linen paper using the Coptic Stitch technique. Learn to create ornate twill woven designs, weaving techniques for easily working with bark and journal binding. Take home one or more unique, durable journals.

Turtle Island Preserve

Kudzu Backpacks
Details
Learn to turn the south's most infamous weed into a supremely useful pack basket! In this class we will cover methods for harvest and preparation of kudzu vines, as well as a variety of weave patterns and techniques to make your basket unique. You will also learn to attach naturally-tanned leather straps with copper rivets. We are going to enjoy a wonderful weekend laughing, weaving, and eating good food on the beautiful Turtle Island campus. At the end, you'll wear home a comfortable, beautiful backpack, that's sure to turn some heads!
